Hats

I’m looking for a good haberdashery (a good millinery, a good hattery, take your pick of synonyms).

For the better part of a year I’ve been thinking a good fedora ought be part of my wardrobe, but I have trepidations about ordering online from Amazon or somesuch. I have a freakishly large noggin and I’d like to find a store that can actually fit me, rather than have me pick from a list of sizes which may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

So, anyone have any picks for DC-area haberdasheries?

I should also specify: I’m looking for classic headwear. The only ones I’ve found in DC have all just screamed “Hipster Central,” and that’s pretty much the antithesis of what I want.

Don't know of any good hat shops in DC, but if you're considering web-orders, there's always Hats Direct, with measuring instructions, OK prices and all.

I'll ask around. As I'm an unindicted co-conspirator aide to one of the guys in the Axis of Fedoras, I should be able to find out what the local source (if any) is.

[personal profile] hasufin just went on a similar quest -- I could ask him where he ended up and what he thought of them, if you like. (He's semi-local.)
