After the Week of Hell and the weekend in Puerto Rico, I returned home and discovered…

… my credit card was apparently used at 4:15pm on Sunday night to book a couple of flights on UK-based EasyJet.

Yeah, my credit card information got swiped.

*head* *desks*

To make matters worse, it wasn’t actually my credit card that got swiped: it was my ATM debit card. Which means there’s now a fraud block on my card and I can’t get money out of my bank account… which means all I have to tide me over until the new ATM card arrives is the money in my wallet.

Sometimes life’s a bitch.

That sucks. Can you get to a branch to make a withdrawal?

Unfortunately, no. Despite living in DC, I still do my banking in small-town Iowa. I don't trust big banks to care a tinker's damn about me as a human being -- but I went to high school with a couple of the guys who are now running Mount Vernon Bank & Trust Company. I feel my money is safer there. They're a great bank, but sometimes it really sucks being a couple of thousand miles away.

On the other hand, a friend of mine was willing to give me $500 cash in exchange for a check for $500, so that's worked out well for me. It's definitely enough to cover my expenses until my new ATM card arrives.
